Details of National Theatre and the Ticket Luck value

National Theatre
National Theatre is housed on 1321 Pennsylvania Avenue across the Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC located three blocks away from the White House.

It is the oldest playhouse in the United States founded on December 7, 1835, by William Corcoran and other prominent citizens of the town showcasing the production "Man of the World".

The seating capacity of the theater is for 1,676 occupants. It is operated by a private and non-profit organization.

The theatre has faced the tensions regarding the racist approach towards performers. In 1936 the Porgy and Bess cast protested the audience's segregation of African American performers. But that was not much of a success.

The theatre had to face the darkness until it was reopened in 1952. In 1974, the not-for-profit National Theatre Corporation was established by Roger L. Stevens, Maurice B. Tobin, Donn B. Murphy and others to save the failing enterprise and stop racial discrimination.

This was not the only hardship that came upon this venue during the 1800s the building of the theatre was destroyed by fire but was rebuilt on the same site for about five times ever since. The theater underwent a major renovation in the years of 1982 and 1983 with the original wing housing dressing rooms replaced as a modern structure.

The stage was designed for concerts under the supervision of Oliver Smith. From this stage, President Ronald Reagan saluted the refurbished "neighborhood theatre" in January of 1984. The last major renovation of the venue was completed in 1984.

The performers who have granted their presence on the stage of National Theater Pearl Bailey, Ethel Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore and John Barrymore, Warren Beatty, Sarah Bernhardt, Claire Bloom, Edwin Booth, John Booth, Fanny Brice, Carol Channing, George M. Cohan, Claudette Colbert, Katharine Cornell, Hume Cronyn, Tim Curry, Ruth Draper, Todd Duncan, Maurice Evans, Lillian Gish, Ruth Gordon, Julie Harris, Rex Harrison, Helen Hayes, Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn, Joseph Jefferson, James Earl Jones, Eva LeGallienne, Jerry Lewis, Alfred Lunt, Lynn Fontanne, Eartha Kitt, Ian McKellen, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Rita Moreno, Helen Morgan, Rosie O'Donnell, Laurence Olivier, Annie Oakley, Geraldine Page, Robert Redford, Debbie Reynolds, Chita Rivera, Will Rogers, Rosalind Russell, George C. Scott, Kevin Spacey, Sting, Jessica Tandy, Norma Terris, Marlo Thomas, Lily Tomlin, Franchot Tone, Rip Torn and Liv Ullmann.

While some of the out-of-town Broadway productions showcased in this theatre are Amadeus, Crazy for You, Hello, Dolly!, Show Boat and West Side Story. The American president Winston Churchill also once spoke from the stage of Nation Theater.

Many restaurants, hotels and shops are located in the neighborhood surrounding the theater. And the closest metro station is the Metro Center.

The parking lots near the National Theatre are at the streets: 1220 E Street, 1325 G Street, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue, 1331 Pennsylvania Avenue, 1201 Pennsylvania Avenue and at the 1450 F Street, near the theatre.

Being in the neighborhood of the White House almost every president and First Lady since the opening of this theatre in 1835 has attended performances in this vintage venue.
