Cirque du Soleil is originally based in Montreal, Quebec and was founded by Guy Laliberte in 1984. Cirque Soleil initially started off as Le Grand Tour du Cirque Du Soleil tour, which was held in 1983 on the 450th Celebrations of Canada"s Discovery by Jacques Cartier.

The tour was indented for just one year, however later on its success kept it running even years after. Cirque Soleil took the shape of a proper circus, as the founder Laliberte joined forces with the artistic director Guy Caron, and turned the circus in to a storylined act, which mainly comprised of story telling through acts rather than tradition circus.

While the Circus still haven"t recovered from the financial crisis yet, it decided to tour Los Angeles, a gamble that really paid Cirque Soleil off, as it turned out to be a major success in Los Angeles, not only that it received positive reviews, it was also a major financial success.

After having enough funds at its disposal, Cirque"s founder Laliberte, decided to start up another touring show while utilizing those funds.

Cirque started a new show named "Nouvelle Experience" in 1989. While Laliberte oversaw the whole production, the entire creative control was handed over to Franco Dragone.

With a bit of renovations to the performances and the whole look of the circus, Cirques new show, Nouvelle Experience came out to be a success, which also took Cirque out of its deficit. The show ran successfully up till 1993.

Cirque started off another show named Saltimbanco in 1992, which drifted a bit more towards the story based act, from the tradition circus acts. Laliberte wanted Saltimbanco to reflect the mixture of different cultures, personalities and backgrounds, which is why 47-cast members come from 15 different countries.

Saltimbanco has toured several cities in South and North America and also in Europe and Japan, and the show ran for about 15 years making the longest running show by Cirque.

Delirium was another show by Cirque, which was basically a live music event, but was in contrast with the tradition live concerts.

The show ran still April 19, 2008 and comprised of the reinterpretations and Cirque"s music"s remixes in a theoretical production.

Apart from these shows, Cirque has also produced a number touring shows, which has tour several countries all across the globe. These shows include Alegria, Quidam, Dralion, Varekai, Corteo, and KOOZA.
