Torrey Pines Golf Course
Situated in, and also owned by the beautiful City of San Diego, in the U.S state of California, is the very eminent Torrey Pines Golf Course. The place is a heaven for golf aficionados all over the world!
Due to its beautiful location, up on coastal cliffs soaring above the Pacific Ocean, Torrey Pines Golf lets its golfers have the marvelous views of the coastline and deep gulches.
The place is great to explore for nature-lovers as well, as they can catch wildlife and the famous Torrey Pines trees here that are native to the area. Boasting two 18-hole golf courses, known as the South and the North courses, Torrey Pines Golf has been long renowned as one of California"s leading urban golf facilities.
Situated in the community of La Jolla, north of San Diego, Torrey Pines resides on the coastal cliffs at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. The facility has been named after an atypical tree, known as Torrey Pine, which grows in the wild and is indigenous to the area of San Diego County.
The magnificent facility, Torrey Pines Golf Course, offers golf, along with offering one of the major on-course golf shops in the state, advance golf reservations, expert instruction, driving ranges and first class lodging and also the advantage of dining close at hand.
Torrey Pines Golf Course basically comprises two golf courses, popularly known as the North and the South Courses. Among these two, the more popular one is the South Course. Torrey Pines North is still considered the host for the Torrey Pines Golf Course signature hole - the Par 3 # 6 Hole with the third-hole on Torrey Pines South Course being an extremely close second on the whole.
Both these 18-holes each golf courses had been initially intended by William Bell, Sr. in 1957. However, in 1999, a renovation starting with the South Course was over seen by the architect Rees Jones.
The renovation process actually took shape in 2001 and it was a very costly one. A total of $3.5 million were spent on the renovation of Torrey Pines South, in which it was made longer - 7607 tremendous yards in length, and more difficult. Due to the coastal location of these courses, they experience environmental conditions such as sunshine, rain, or fog. Chilling winds are often experienced.
The facility is home to the PGA Tour Buick Invitational, which plays the Torrey Pines Golf Courses each year in January or February, since 1968. Play-offs rounds are divided between the North Torrey Pines and South Torrey Pines; whereas, the final round is always hosted by the South Torrey Pines course.
Torrey Pines is also home of the Junior World Championships during the month of July each year. Other than this, the South Torrey Pines has also hosted the 2008 United States Open Championship.
Altogether, Torrey Pines Golf Course is a 36-hole municipal facility in Southern California, and is a true paradise for golfers!
