Among the earlier top-performers of the venue, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker Muddy Waters and Koko Taylor attracted huge crowd. Twenty years after its successful presence, the Toads Place was owned by Brian Phelps, the former co-owner who took control after Spoerndle gave up due to his drug addiction problems.
