Aragon Ballroom Tickets

Aragon Ballroom, located in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood gained prominence for hosting the biggest artists from the big band era. Opened in 1926, the venue goes back to being home to which ever genre became prevalent through the generations all the way from rock, jazz, punk rock, funk metal, sludge metal to radio station broadcasts and much more. By the seventies, the place had made a reputation for being home to 'monster rock' performances that were really marathon sessions of rock and roll lasting up to six or more hours. These shows gathered enough attention to establish the nickname, 'Aragon Brawlroom'. Today, the Aragon Ballroom tickets are sought-after for a variety of shows including Vietnamese and Spanish language shows and rock concerts alongside which occasionally boxing events are held.

The construction of the Aragon Ballroom came to a complete in 1926 reflecting characteristic Moorish architecture with interiors strongly reminiscent of Spanish village lifestyle. The venue became an almost instant success being named after a Spanish autonomous community, and remained quite popular among the Chicago crowd all through the forties. Since the Ballroom was located so close to the train station, it facilitated the patrons with easier access, while at the same time it made it possible for crowds over eighteen thousand to attend shows during the week.

Every night, the WGN powerhouse radio station would broadcast an hour's programs to the audiences from the hall, throughout Canada and Midwestern United States. Legend has it, that secret tunnels under the neighboring Green Mill bar, which was the hangout of Al Capone during Prohibition-era, lead to the Ballroom's basement.

In 1958, the Ballroom caught fire from its adjacent cocktail lounge, which forced its shut-down for many years. Following its re-opening, the size of its crowds reduced markedly, to the extent that the venue had to shut down its dancing after a few years. Many of the following new owners used it as a discotheque, a boxing venue, and roller skating rink, alongside putting in efforts to bring it back as a tradition ballroom.

In the early seventies, the Aragon came under the ownership of Latin promoters Jose Palomar and Willy Miranda, who had been promoting Hispanic concerts and dances for years in Chicago. The two came together with rock promoters Jerry Mickelson and Arny Granat, who were using the halls for rock concerts. By the nineties, punk rock act Green Day made shot a video for MTV Jaded in Chicago at the Ballroom before a sold-out crowd. A few years later the Aragon was purchased by Mercedes Fernandez, Luis Rossi (owner of La Raza Newspaper) and Ivan Fernandez.

The venue has also hosted performances by funk metal artists Primus who filmed their initial concert DVD called Hallucino-Genetics there.  Only recently, The White Stripes released their live album recorded there.
