In1958, the federal government especially President Dwight D. Eisenhower helped pass the bill and finance for the construction of the center. Architect, Edward Durell Stone was hired for the project and his design was well received by the US Commission of Fine Arts, National Park Service and The Washington Post. In December 1964, the construction process finally started and by 1971, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts was up and running.
