The Bulldog Stadium was opened on Nov. 15, 1980 with an exciting encounter of Fresno State and Montana State. While the tenets won the game by 21-14, this heralded the start of a bond between the team and its home.

In years to come, the Fresno State Bulldogs went on to make and break many records establishing the place as one of the most difficult places to win for visiting teams. The Bulldog Stadium also hosted California Raisin Bowl for ten years, from 1981 to 1991.

In 1994, the Bulldog Stadium began hosting international soccer matches and hosted teams from Mexico, Brazil, Sweden and others from there onwards. The stadium also got a facelift from time to time and established itself as par the best sporting facilities of the Nation.

The two-phase expansion project in 1991 included the addition of more than 10,000 seats and the construction of 22 sky suites. More renovation was done in 2005 and 2006 and the stadium was upgraded into a premium sporting complex with capacity of more than forty thousand and world-class facilities.

The Bulldog Stadium has witnessed some of the best sporting moments in the history of America. It has also seen record attendance from the past ten years. Having hosted California Bowl from 1981-91, the stadium also proudly hosted preliminary rounds of the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
