Nederlander Theatre stands grandly in the southernmost part of theater district of New York City, honoring the Nederlander Family. The place was known as The David T. Nederlander Theatre after the patriarch of the family. After some changes in the names - National Theatre, the Trafalgar and Billy Rose Theatre - the venue is presently called Nederlander Theatre in short. Nederlander Theatre was established in 1921 and had the seating capacity of only 1,200 people. As far as the history goes, the correct account of its origin remains vaguely uncertain. However, it can be said that Nederlander was one of the few Broadway houses, like Winter Garden and Broadway, which was not built as such. Over the years, seating capacity of the theatre increased so at present, it can seat up to 1,232 people.

Nederlander Theatre has always acted as a venue which has played all the very best Broadway shows. Its stages have seen productions of Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf by Edward Albee, King Lear and Julius Caesar by Shakespeare, Private Lives by Noel Coward and last but not the least, the Tony award winning show, Rent. For Rent, the place was remodeled to look like a downtown nightclub. The setting was taken down when the show ended, making way for a new setting for a new show. The theatre also saw some productions which were taken down shortly because of weak ticket sales or failure on Broadway. Million Dollar Quartet also played at Nederlander Theatre. The most recent and probably the most successful run of any production at the theatre was Newsies.

The show was put up after Million Dollar Quartet and was converted into an open run after some time. For the first eight performances, the show witnessed a turn up of 101%, achieving the box office record for the theatre.

Nederlander Theatre provides an intimate and cozy environment to watch a Broadway production. The place doesn't have a whole lot of seating capacity but even then it manages to provide a nice environment where people can enjoy a show with up-to-the-mark visuals and acoustics.
