What was once dreamt about by a PGA TOUR Commissioner, known as Deane Beman, is today very popularly known and called as the TPC Sawgrass.

The facility established in the late 1900s, and is now a well-praised golf course, situated in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA.

Comprising two different golf courses, TPC Sawgrass was the foundational Tournament Players Club, and is home to the PGA Tour's headquarters. It not only a golf facility, but it is indeed a resort destination which is chosen by families, golfers, meeting planners, and more. On the whole, it is considered as a golfer"s paradise.

Opened in 1980, TPC Sawgrass was initially a vision of one of the PGA Tour Commissioners, Deane Beman, who wanted to make an unusual and exclusive host site for the players' own match.

Thus, it hosts THE PLAYERS Championship, to which it is also a home, organized by the PGA Tour. The facility has been built specifically by keeping the spectators in mind. There are two golf courses, known as the Stadium Course and the Valley Course.

The Stadium Course had been designed by Pete Dye and Alice Dye as balanced golf course, which favors no especial player or style of play. The course direction-finding was laid out in such a manner, that no two following holes can ever play in the same direction.

Widely considered as one of the toughest golf courses in the world, it is this very course which is home to the PGA Tour's flagship event - The Players Championship. The Stadium Course comprises a fundamental "stadium-concept", where the fans at the TCP sit in stands made of raised mounds of grass.

On the other hand, the Valley Course has been designed by Pete Dye, Bobby Weed and play expert Jerry Pate. This course opened in 1987 and played host to the Senior PLAYERS Championship during 1988-1990.

However, the signature hole at TPC Sawgrass is the #17, on the Stadium Course, called the Island Green. From tee to green it measures 132 yards, and consists a 78 foot long green and a tiny bunker in front of it.

Saving an undersized pathway to green, the remaining of the whole is completely encircled by water, in principle a peninsula, and its location in the center of a gully of trees causes the wind to twirl above the green. Although beautiful to view, this hole has been feared by many key professional golf players.

It is often stated by the facility management that the design of the #17 hole came by an accident, where its actual design was a much simpler one, a par-3 green only partly bordered by a lake.

Today, TPC Sawgrass is highly ranked among golf"s most enviable destinations. The facility has been shaped to challenge the best of players from all around the world.

Starting with the 77,000 sq-ft Mediterranean Revival-style clubhouse, to the TOUR Academy, the TPC Sawgrass features top-class services and facilities, which all help in providing the golfers and others with a memorable experience.
