Winspear Opera House is an opera house located in the AT&T Performing Arts Center along with three other venues. The newly build modern opera house is situated at the prime location in the down town, Dallas, USA. Known as the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, its construction started in the year 2006 and began to operate in 2009. Located in the art district, this opera house is considered to be one of the most modern venues currently operating. Winspear Opera House has been designed by the London based architecture firm Foster and Partners, which is known for the hi-profile glass and steel fancy buildings. The award-winning architect Norman Foster and Spencer de Grey were the two principle architects. The venue was named as Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House because of the prominent money donation from Margot and Bill Winspear, which made the construction possible. The acoustical design for the opera house was developed by another leading firm known as Sound Space Design.


Winspear Opera House was opened for performance in October 2009, with Verdi's Otello. The newly built venue is shaped like 'horseshoe' which makes it highly unique. The brilliantly designed venue is wrapped by Annette and Harold Simmons Signature Glass Façade. The glass walls are retractable and the venue opens up to the Grand Lobby. The Grand Portico provides shade to the building by radiating from all sides. A solar canopy is fixed in such a way that it makes possible to avoid direct sunlight and saves energy. The stage is specifically engineered for opera and musical performances including all types of dances. The key features of the performance hall include retractable screens, three-square stage, a huge fly tower and variable acoustics.
