Atlanta Symphony Hall
The home venue of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), Atlanta Symphony Hall, is situated within the Woodruff Arts Center, at 1280 Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia.
Atlanta Symphony Hall is available for anything, ranging from concert presentations to meetings and corporate events, film, or lecture events, or even dance and theatrical productions.
The venue has a total capacity of 1,762 seats on three levels, 1,074 in the Orchestra section, 349 in the First Balcony and 339 in the Second Balcony for a total of 1,762. In addition, 82 pit seats may be used at an additional charge, if stage set-up allows.
The first Atlanta Symphony Orchestra recording -a Robert Shaw Christmas album, was made there in 1975. More Atlanta Symphony recordings have regularly been made there since 1977, but the hall has been severely criticized by critics for its acoustics.
Plans are underway for a new concert hall, but for the foreseeable future the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will remain at home at the Woodruff Arts Center. The site for the new structure is in Midtown on 14th Street just south of the current Symphony Hall in the Woodruff Arts Center.
To create a unique and innovative concert hall, the ASO facilitated a unique, innovative and inclusive design process that included a world-class design team, along with 12 community-based task forces of 250 participants.
The Atlanta Symphony Center is designed by Santiago Calatrava, who is world-renowned for his monumental architecture. Symphony Center will be a cornerstone of the Woodruff Arts Center"s Village of the Arts as well as an economic driver for Atlanta and Georgia, as it is going to be built in the heart of Midtown Atlanta.
It is designed to bring new richness in performances and new resources to the community. Not only this, the Symphony Center will also have a great economic impact on Atlanta and Georgia. It will generate more tax revenues and 2,100new jobs will be offered after the construction completes.
The Symphony Center"s new Learning Center will make possible an expansion of current education programs, while it creates a nucleus for a national music education center.
The Learning Center will include education options for seniors, distance learning, school performances and expanded partnerships with other institutions.
