Dow Event Center
The Dow Event Centre is a famous event complex of Saginaw, Michigan. The event complex hosted many big and small events in its walls from political processions to hokey games. It is located in downtown Saginaw. The Dow Event Centre was opened to the people of Saginaw in the year 1972.

Dow Event Centre - What Went Before?
In 1927, The Dow Event Centre was opened for the citizens of Saginaw. It was originally built as a part of an urban development program of the Saginaw government with many other buildings of the city.

But in 1980"s all such building made for the urban development program were demolished, reason being the health issues and bankruptcy, except the Dow Event Centre building. Even today Dow Event Centre is only building that exists.

The Dow Event Centre had to face foreclosure in 1990"s and was nearly going to be closed. Afterwards in year 2000, when the city acquired its own hokey team, Dow Event Centre was renovated which was much-needed at that time.

In May 2001, the ownership of the Event Centre was transferred from the Saginaw city to Saginaw country. Saginaw city closed its set-up on 30th June and the Saginaw country then opened it right next day on 1st July 2001.

Saginaw country, after having the ownership of the Dow Event Centre, gave the responsibility of the center"s renovation to SMG Worldwide. The renovation process was completed in 2003.

Dow Event Center"s Naming History
The Dow Event Centre was formerly called "The Saginaw Country Event Centre". Much previous to that it was identified as "The Saginaw Civic Centre", both names relate to its location in the Saginaw city, Michigan. It was not until 2004, that the Dow Chemical Company owned its naming rights and named the complex as the Dow Event Centre.

Dow Event Centre Divisions
The Dow Event Centre is divided into two large divisions; the Heritage Theatre and the Wendler Arena. Every year there are many events held at the centre raging from political campaigns, wedding receptions, family gatherings and concerts to even high school graduations.

The Heritage Theatre is a hall for family gatherings and other meetings. This hall has a capacity for 2,276 guests at one time. The Heritage Theatre was previously known as the Unity Hall.

The Wendler Arena is an ice rink that can facilitate 7,600 people for concerts (rink without ice) and can host 5,500 spectators for hokey games (rink with ice).

Grand Events at the Dow Event Centre
The Dow Event Centre has hosted many great events ever since it was built in 1927. In the year 1995, the event centre hosted WWF "In Your House" wresting event. In 2004, political rallies of the Republican Party were held in the centre during the re-election campaign of George W Bush.

Similarly, the Jehovah's Witnesses Dictrict Convention is held in the Dow Event Centre, since 2005. the conventions are held in the month of June for 3 days in every week. Jehovah's Witnesses Dictrict Convention was previously held at Pontiac Silverdome.

Dow Event Centre and Hokey Sports
The Dow Event Centre also serves as a home to OHL junior ice hokey team of Saginaw, the Saginaw Spirit. It is expected that Dow Event Centre will host the Saginaw Sting of the Indoor Football League.

Previously the Dow Event Centre has served a home to many great hokey teams of Saginaw including the Saginaw LumberKings, Saginaw Wheels and also the IHL and UHL incarnations of the Saginaw Gears.
