The Sarnia Sting is an ice hockey team from Ontario, Canada. They are part of the "Ontario Hockey League", but are a junior team. Their home ground is the "RBC Centre" and their official colors are black, gold and white. Their symbol is a drawn yellow jacket bee holding a hockey stick. Currently, they are being managed by Jacques Beaulieu who is also their coach. Charlie Sarault will be returning to this season as the team captain. For their many upcoming games, cheap Sarnia Sting tickets are available.
Although the team as we know it began playing in the 1994 season, it was originally formed in 1969. In its early days, it was initiated as a franchise of the newly formed "Quebec Major Junior Hockey League", often abbreviated as the QMJHL. It was listed as amongst its inaugural teams. Once they were inducted, they were sent to Cornwall, Ontario where they played as the Cornwall Royals. Thus, as long as they were part of the QMJHL, they had quite a successful run, winning the annual "Memorial Cup" thrice, once in 1972, the other in 1980 and one in the following year, 1981. As they had progressed and had proven themselves as a worthy hockey team, they were promoted to being listed in the "Ontario Hockey League". Therefore, they played their 1981-82 season as a major league hockey team. They played as such for 10 years before they were relocated yet again, this time to Newmarket, Ontario. Here, they were renamed the "Newmarket Royals".
The team became what we know of it today in 1994 when the Ciccarelli brothers bought them and brought them to Sarnia, Ontario. This became their last transfer and they finally became Sarnia Sting. Robert Ciccarelli remains the team's governor and president. He is reputable in the industry and has also won the award for "Executive of the Year" presented by the "Ontario Hockey League" itself.
This season, the team is gearing up once more to win its first "Memorial Cup" as well as the "J. Ross Robertson Cup". Unfortunately, ever since their move, they have not attained the amount of success they would have liked. Their only big win thus far has been the "OHL West Division Championship" for which they received the "Bumbacco Trophy". They won this in the 2003 season and this has remained their only title in nearly 20 years. They came very close to winning the "OHL Championship" in the 1996 season but in a streak of bad luck were defeated by the "Kitchener Rangers" in the quarter finals. In order to have a more successful season this year, the team needs to perform well in the first round of playoffs, the area in which they have met their defeat in previous years.
They are still a team with much history and thus have a faithful following who roots for them in every match. Cheap Sarnia Sting tickets for this season are thus selling out as hockey fans gear up.
