The Adler Theatre came into being when in 1926, the Radio Keith Orpheum theatre chain planned to built a theatre at a cost of $2 million. It was then named Orpheum Theatre and was designed under the guidance of architect A.S. Graven of Chicago, who also gave us the splendid Paramount Theater in New York City.

The Orpheum Theatre was opened on November 25, 1931. This was the time when the country was in the depths of the Great Depression. But the grand opening of this cultural symbol gave some hope to the citizens of Davenport and the rest of the States.

The festivities at the theatre kicked off on the Thanksgiving Eve, where five vaudeville acts and screening of the comedy movie "Suicide Fleet" gave a reason to rejoice to everyone concerned.

In years to come, the Orpheum Theatre prospered well with big Hollywood "talkies" made it Iowa's largest movie house. But slowly, the success era started fading away and the on September 11, 1973, the theatre screened its final film "Cleopatra Jones." Although, there were ample entertainment options for the locals of the city, but everyone missed the beauty and grandeur of the Orpheum Theatre.

This compelled the authorities to restore the venue and in 1984, the renovation of the Adler Theatre began with full force. It was renamed as Adler Theatre in the honor of E.P. Adler and his son Philip D. Adler, who were known for their charitable and cultural achievements in the community.

The year 1986 brought an important landmark in the history of the prestigious theatre when it was re-opened for the audience as Adler Theatre. This time, the venue was renovated to host live performances and the opening night gala concert featured Burt Bacharach and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra.

This fulfilled the much desired need of the locals and they started coming in big numbers. Some more renovation work was done in 2005-2006 that made it one of the most sought after venue for live acts and concerts.
