The David H. Koch Theater is a popular venue specifically designed to present some of the finest modern, contemporary, ballet and several other types of the art. The theater is located in the famed Lincoln Center that has been constructed for performing arts that is situated at the known intersection of the 63rd Street and Columbus Avenue. The theater was formerly known as the esteemed New York State Theater and since 1964 has been a venue for the illustrious New York City ballet. From 1964 till 2011, the venue was a home to the famed New York City Opera. The venue inhabits the south part of the central plaza of the Lincoln Center and faces Avery Fisher Hall. The venue was constructed with the aid of funds that were allotted to it from the State. Philip Johnson, an architect designed the venue which was inaugurated on the 23rd of April in 1964. The rights of the venue belong to New York City. The Music Theater of Lincoln Center which is now defunct was a tenant of the venue in company with the ballet and opera. Richard Rodgers was the president of the theater and while he served it, various classic Broadway productions were revived at the venue during the 1960s. A few of these productions are Annie Get Your Gun, The King and I, South Pacific, Carousel and Show Boat.

David H. Koch an oil and gas billionaire vowed to give a sum of $100 million for the coming ten years for renovating the building of the theater in July 2008. At the prestigious New York City Ballet Winter Gala event, the theater was effectively renamed as the David H. Koch Theater on the 25th of November, 2008. Now the theater will bear Koch's name for nearly 50 years. Today, the gorgeous theater has a seating capacity of 2,586 and hosts a variety of seating options for the orchestra stage, a Fifth Ring, along with four main balconies that are decorated with gorgeous lightings and an absolutely stunning spherical chandelier that hangs in the middle of the ceiling that has been gold latticed.Â

When the renovation of the theater was taking place, the entire seating and the carpeting were changed and the main stage lighting arrangement had been updated to provide the ultimate experience. Furthermore, there were center aisles that were created for the orchestra level of seating and the pit where the orchestra ensemble performs was expanded. Various types of modern art that also comprise of the original works of Reuben Nakian, Lee Bontecou and jasper Johns are featured in the lobby areas.
