Tacoma Dome is truly one of its kinds when it comes to the structure of the building, as it the largest indoor arena equipped with a dome made out of wood.

Tacoma Dome is located at the 2727 East D Street in Tacoma Washington D.C and has the maximum capacity of holding 23,000 people. The arena broke ground on July 1, 1981 and after approximately two years, the construction of the arena was completed and it opened it doors for the audience on April 21, 1983 after incurring the construction cost of $44 Million.

The very same year, Tacoma Stars of Major Indoor Soccer League made Tacoma Dome, their home till 1992. It also served as the home ground to a number of other teams including Tacoma Express of Major League Football System, Western Hockey League"s Tacoma Rockets, and West Coast Hockey League"s Tacoma Sabercats. Since the arena is located only 30 Miles from Seattle, Seattle Supersonics of National Basketball Association also used it as their home ground for one season, while Seattle Center Coliseum was going under extensive renovation.

The first ever major event staged at the Tacoma Dome was the live concert by David Bowie with The Tubes on August 11, 1983. Annually, Tacoma Dome welcomes more than a million audience members in its diverse array of events held at the arena. Along with arena is also an Exhibition Hall attached to it that relatively smaller events like live concerts, family shows, High School Sporting events and many other events every year.

Apart from being the home ground to a number of Major League teams, a number of Minor League soccer and ice hockey teams also played their home games at the arena. Also in 1990 gymnastics events from that year"s Goodwill Games, took place at the arena. Moving away from the regular sort of events that are hosted at Tacoma Dome, Built Ford Tough Series Bull Riding Competition is held at the Dome annually ever since it was held for the first time in 2003.

Apart from the sporting events a number of well known musicians also chose Tacoma Dome as the venue from their live performances. Some of these artists include Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Britney Spears, The Police, American Idols live, Celine Dion, U2, Bon Jovi and many others. In 2008, the concert tickets of the band AC/DC sell out in the record time of 35 minutes, which is by far the fastest sell out in the history of Tacoma Dome.

Like always, once again Tacoma Dome has an exciting and thrilling array of events scheduled for this year. Some of the upcoming events at the Dome in the month of June and July include TAC Banquet of Champions, Bellarmine Graduation, Tacoma District Graduations, Clover Park Graduations, Bryndis, Northwest Job Expo, Watchtower, Jonas Brothers, American Idols Live, Great American RV Sale, and many others.
