Shaw Conference Centre
Among many other places, Shaw Conference Centre or The SHAW is undoubtedly the center of attraction in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The SHAW opened in 1983 and it is located on the Jasper Ave at the 97th Street overlooking the North Saskatchewan River Valley that has been a centre of attraction of many tourists coming to Edmonton since 3000 B.C.
Shaw Conference Centre is mainly built underground and with the bottom of the building comprises of convention and conference rooms, while top floors are taken up by the Edmonton Tourism. The SHAW also houses an exhibition hall that is stretched across 150,000 sq. ft of space.
The Shaw Conference Centre was built with the cost of $ 81.8 Million and also houses 3 pairs of the escalators, which the longest ones in Canada, providing the descendants with the spectacular view of the river valley. Shaw Conference Center"s atrium depicts the resemblance of the hill located in the river valley on which the SHAW is situated.
After being amazed by the architecturally well groomed atrium, the visitors are welcomed by the well carpeted stairways, 3 pairs of longest escalators, and elevators made up entirely of glass, molded into the tram like structure and that is not all, to further add the toppings to the view of the atrium, man made tropical scenery along with three water falls is also there to catch and comfort the eyes of the visitors, even while using escalators or elevators as those are placed in between escalators and elevators to provide with a uniquely eye catching view.
Shaw Conference Centre is further divided into two levels, one of them being the Conference Level, while the other one being the Salon Level. Conference level is the main level located in the SHAW and provides with abundant public space. Conference level is further divide in to Hall A, Hall B, Hall C and Hall D.
The first three halls were there when the centre opened in 1983, however Hall D was added up more recently and it was opened in May of 2006, with the capacity to with hold 2,000 people. The separations among these halls are temporary, hence when needed; the walls can be folded up to accommodate even larger events and much larger space.
The Salon level is located below the Conference level and is comprised mainly of salons that are 13 in number along with several luxury rooms. Salons provide to be ideally suitable for comparatively smaller events such as seminars, workshops that are held during conferences. Again, salons are also parted with temporary walls which can be fold up to accommodate much larger number of people.
Shaw Conference Centre does not only host conferences and trade shows through out the year, but it is also one of the most famous venues for live music concerts in Edmonton.
Previously the SHAW has hosted a live concert by Big Sugar and also the No Fear Energy Tour featuring Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, As I Lay Dying, Municipal Waste and God Forbid.
