The Red Bull Arena NJ is the home turf of the “New York Red Bulls” formerly known as the “MetroStars” who used to play their home games at the “Giants Stadium.” The management first decided to think about shifting the team to a new home which was smaller and would be dedicated to soccer.
 
The construction contract was awarded to “Hunter Roberts Construction Group” and “Rossetti Architects” were handed the task of designing the entire facility. With everything in place it was decided that the construction would commence in November, 2007. In the meanwhile the MetroStars controlling company AEG sold the franchise to Red Bull. That pushed the construction back by a month.
 
The name of the team was changed and AEG sold its one stake in the stadium as well to Red Bull today. The new ownership started to make some changed in the design that was approved initially. One of the biggest changes was the removal of the stage that was to be used for concerts. Once the Red Bull think tank was satisfied the construction began in earnest, one month later than originally planned.
 
The entire construction process hit a few stumbling blocks here and there but the Red Bull Arena NJ opened its doors for the public on 20^th March, 2010.  The stadium can host over twenty thousand fans at a time and was completed at an estimated cost of around two hundred thousand dollars. The first soccer game to be held at this magnificent arena saw the Red Bulls take on the Brazilian soccer club “Santos FC” in what was an exhibition match.
 
Red Bulls played their first ever competitive game at the stadium seven days later in a game against Chicago Fire. The home team’s “Joel Lindpere” wrote his name in history books as the first soccer player to score a goal at the Red Bull Arena NJ. In May of that year the Czech Republic took on Turkey in what was the first international soccer game played at the venue.
 
In 2011 an All-Star team from the MLS took on European and English soccer heavyweights “Manchester United” in a game that was a part of the latter’s pre-season tour of the United States. The arena ranks as one of the most spectacular soccer venues in the country. This is just a start in what will surely be a legacy to cherish years down the line.
