In November 1929, Severance Hall's groundbreaking initiated its construction.  It was name after patron John L. Severance who pooled in a million dollars to push start its construction. The plan and layout was materialized with a construction that incurred an expense of seven million dollars. Within two years the venue was ready to stage events of all kinds. However, the inaugural concert in February 1931 unveiled it to public eyes. It instantly became the heart and home of the Cleveland Orchestra.
 
Severance Hall is very well appreciated as a National Heritage and Historic Site. The reason for this is the intrinsic architectural design and grandeur of the interiors of the arena. The amalgam of a wide range of styles aesthetically blended to deliver it as a Landmark in Cleveland's Art and Architectural sites.
