The Canterbury Park was founded in 1985 by Walter Brooks Fields, Jr. At first the venue was better known for hosting major horse racing events which it still continues to do. With time, the spectrum of entertainment has expanded immensely. In the late 80s, the addition of casino gaming increased the popularity of the venue, known as Canterbury Downs at that time. In 1995, the park was sold to Randy and Curtis Sampson and the name was officially changed to Canterbury Park.

To date, the Vans Warped Tour has been to Canada, England, Australia, Japan, America and several European countries around the world. The tour also includes many other attractions including a half pipe for skaters and bikers and personal booths for each band to sell their merchandise and sign autographs.

As of 2000, the event has featured almost 100 bands per show. Many mainstream bands such as My Chemical Romance, Rise Against, D12, Fall Out Boy, Matchbook Romance and Avenged Sevenfold have performed at the Warped Tour.
