Since years, the Palace Theatre Cleveland has been a favorite destination for the people wishing to have ultimate in fun and excitement. The history of the Palace Theater dates back to November 6, 1922, when it opened its doors as Keith"s Palace Theater at the cost of $2 million.

The facility was named after the business partner of the original owner, Edward Albee, while the Chicago architectural firm of Rapp and Rapp designed it. The French Renaissance style Palace Theater promptly became a popular place for featuring various vaudeville shows.

It would accommodate up to 3,100 people, while its interior featured 154 crystal chandeliers, Great Hall, world"s famous paintings, breath-taking settings and other amenities.

Vaudeville shows maintained a presence at the Palace Theater Cleveland until the 1950s. However, the advent of the motion-picture age gradually replaced the vaudeville acts with movies. To cope up with the changing trends, the Theatre was subsequently transformed into a Cinerama.

This transition saw removal of 1,800 seats from the venue. In late "60s, hard times and bad planning led to the boarding up of the facility. After a couple of years, the locals of Cleveland launched a successful campaign to restore the theater district to its resplendent glory.

In the first quarter of 1973, the Playhouse Square Foundation managed to obtain the lease for the Palace Theater Cleveland, and brought some renovation. The Theater reopened and began producing cabaret shows in order to attract visitors to the Playhouse Square.

After a few successful years of its run, the Palace marked its way on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It once again underwent a renovation phase and reopened in 1988. 2,714 seats were added to the facility which made it the second-largest theater on Playhouse Square. All thanks to the timely support of Greater Clevelanders who kept the theatre district alive and bustling with activities.
