The history of the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center goes all the way back to 1994, when the community leaders realized a need for a performing arts venue located within Paducah. At that time, the main concern for the creation of an events venue was to provide Paducah Symphony Orchestra with a home, as it had to perform at an abandoned school auditorium. As this urge and idea grew larger with time, more donors, leaders and other officials started taking more interest in the development of an events venue that would be the center of performing arts within the surrounding region.

After its foundation, the facility was originally named the Four Rivers Center for the Performing Arts, a name that was later changed to Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center back in 2004. Currently the facility is commonly referred to as simply the Carson Center, and attracts the audience members from all over Ohio, Cumberland, Mississippi and Tennessee, which makes it truly the performing arts hub of the region.

The resolution for the construction of the Four Rivers Center was passed by thirteen counties in total in hopes of improving the economy of the region, as well as for the enhancement of the education. As a result of the public forum result, the construction of the events center was also chosen as a priority community project by the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce. As a result of this, the Four Rivers Center finally broke ground later in 2001.
