Dodger Stadium was basically the vision of Walter O' Malley, owner of the Dodgers, who chose the 300-acre underdeveloped land at Chavez Ravine to build the stadium there in 1957. Designed by the architect Captain Emil Praeger, Dodger Stadium opened on the 10th of April in 1962. Built at a cost of $23 million, the builder behind this huge and magnificent stadium was the Vinell Construction Company, whereas, the owner of the stadium are the Los Angeles Dodgers. This was the only privately financed baseball stadium built, since the Yankee Stadium in 1923. The third privately financed baseball stadium was Pacific Bell Park which opened in 2000. In addition to this, the Dodger Stadium, along with Chicago's Wrigley Field, were the only National League parks that had been built solely for baseball. It had been occupied by The Los Angeles / California Angels from 1962 to 1965, which played their games there and shared the Dodger Stadium, which was then known as Chavez Ravine.
