The magnificent facility UIC Pavilion is majorly known as the home to Chicago Flames and Chicago Sky, which are a popular basketball and WNBA teams of the region. Besides hosting their home games and other sports related events, the venue also hosts live music concerts, festivals, civic and cultural and meetings. Truly a multi-purpose arena, the UIC Pavilion easily accommodates all these events of different nature.

Since its opening in 1982 with a concert by Loverboy, UIC Pavilion has remained the hub of sports and music activities of the city. Though primarily a University facility, it has attracted sports lovers from all over Chicago and also hosted the chart-toppers artists from the world of music.

The management, of course, deserves the credited for Pavilion"s super success as they make sure to regularly upgrade the arena in accordance with modern needs. One such renovation project in 2001 made UIC the fully-facilitated venue of its kind that can accommodate high-scale concerts and functions along with games and sports.

Attending an event at the UIC Pavilion is an experience of a lifetime. The event space boosts of flexible seating capacity that can be adjusted according to the nature of event. According to an approximate value, the arena can host up to 8,000 patrons in basketball and volleyball matches, almost 10,300 for concerts and live shows and 5,000 to 8,000 for house shows. This is mainly a general admission venue; except for VIP seating that features many extra services for the patrons.

The UIC Pavilion is a well-structured venue that offers convenient parking space. The main parking is located adjacent to the Pavilion while two additional lots are located across the street. The venue also recognizes ADA (American with Disabilities Act) and ensures hassle-free experience for person with disabilities.

After taking a look at sports history at UIC Pavilion, one can only wonder at the variety it has presented so far. The venue has not only hosted regular sports games like soccer, basketball, ice-hockey and volleyball but also hosted events related to boxing, martial arts, roller derbies and track games.

Some of the previous tenants of UIC Pavilion include the Chicago Storm, an Indoor Soccer League team that played here from 2004 to 2006. The venue also hosted games of University"s ice hockey team when they competed in the CCHA. It also served as a home-field to Chicago Indoor Soccer Club and WNBA Professional Women"s Basketball in the past.

Today, it is used for the home games of Chicago Sky and Chicago Flames, and also play host to Chicago's first all-female flat track derby league known as the Windy City Rollers.Over the year, UIC Pavilion becomes site of many popular championships and intense encounters.

It has hosted Horizon League men's basketball conference tournament in 1984, 1999 and 2000. In tennis, the Pavilion hosted grand tournaments like FedEx Tennis Shootout, Ameritech Cup tennis and the McDonald's Tour featuring the tennis stars Williams Sisters.

The venue made headlines when it hosted USA Basketball All-Stars vs. the Yugoslavian Olympic Team, USA Women's Basketball vs. the Russian Olympic Team, Labatt's Hockey Heroes vs. UIC and games by Chicago Power and Chicago Storm Indoor Soccer team.

The citizens of Chicago still recalls the times when UIC Pavilion hosted Volvo Grand Prix and U.S. Precision Figure Skating Championships. It has also hosted many action-packed wrestling events like Starrcade, Chi-Town Rumble and Halloween Havoc in 80"s and 90"s.

The commencement of AIBA World Amateur Boxing Championship in 2007 added another feature to its cap as it was the largest AIBA World Championship of that time. Not to forget several interesting gymnastics competitions and shows by world-famous Harlem Globetrotters that makes the UIC Pavilion a super-hit facility among sports lovers.

Those who do not attend sports events find UIC Pavilion a good place to attend concerts, commencements, live shows and circuses.

Having hosted the likes of U2, The Killers, Coldplay, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Kanye West and Madonna; the venue is expected to attract many more musical sensations in the upcoming season.
