Details of National Arts Centre and the Ticket Luck value
National Arts Centre
Seated on a 1.158 million square feet area National Arts Centre (NAC) is located in the capital and fourth largest municipality of Canada; Ottawa situated at the banks of Ottawa River.
It is a performing arts center housed between Elgin Street and UNESCO World Heritage Site registered oldest continuously operated canal system of North America; Rideau Canal.
The venue can be reached by taking the Queensway east or west bound by taking an exit at Nicholas, turning left onto Laurier and right onto Elgin Street.
A much needed venue for the productions of performing art in the city of Ottawa led to the foundation of an organization named the National Capital Arts Alliance in the year 1963.
The founders of this organization were G. Hamilton Southam and Levi Pettler who successfully convinced the city and government to build the new centre. Thus the National Arts Centre was launched as a federal government project started in 1967 when the city donated the area where Ottawa City Hall was once stood.
The National Arts Centre opened its door to the public on June 2, 1969 with the mission of establishing a center as the pre-eminent showcase for the performing arts, of acting as a catalyst for the performing arts nationally and nurturing and of supporting artists and arts organizations in communities across the country.
The building of the centre was designed by Fred Lebensold. The Arts Centre building is a large hexagon shaped brown structure while the roof of the building is attached to the Mackenzie King Bridge and contains gardens that are open to the public.
Much of the building is below ground on Elgin Street which shows the scenic view of the Rideau Canal from the lower level of the building. Its outer appearance of concrete wall is creatively made by thousands of small pebbles buried in concrete.
The National Arts Centre is the only multidisciplinary, bilingual performing arts centre in North America, and one of the largest in the world. It provides entertainment to masses on the four stages it houses.
The Southam Hall is the largest stage of the centre and is home to the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, Opera Lyra Ottawa. It has the seating capacity of 2,323 occupants and it has hosted many ballets and other major visiting shows and productions.
There is an 897 seated Theatre used mostly for English and French theatre productions and dance events. Another theatre venue within this vicinity is a Studio which has 300 seats while there is a forth stage in the centre with 150 seats mostly used for community programs.
The companies who has worked with National Art Centre in co-productions are PPS Danse, The Banff Centre for the Arts, Ballet British Columbia, Theātre du Nouveau-Monde, Theātre du Rideau vert, Cercle Moličre Manitoba Theatre Company, Neptune Theatre, and Citadel Theatre to name only a few.
National Arts Centre has hosted the performances of thousands of artists, who were emerging or were established, from across Canada and around the world.
It has hosted events in collaborates with dozens of other arts organizations across the country. It has fulfilled its commitment in performing arts fields and has produced the best of classical music, English theatre, French theatre, dance, variety, and community programming.
