Jay Pritzker Pavilion, commonly known as Pritzker Music Pavilion or Pritzker Pavilion, is a shell theater in Millennium Park located in the Loop community region of Chicago. The venue has taken its name from Jay Pritzker, the man whose family is well-reputed as owners of Hyatt Hotels. The pavilion, which was architecturally designed by Frank Gehry, was constructed from 1999 through 2004, and officially opened in July 2004. It is now looked at as the focal point of Millennium Park, and is also known for being the new home theater of Grant Park Music Festival and Grant Park Symphony Orchestra that are the two remaining outdoor musical series in the nation. The venue is also host to a broad range of yearly events of the performing arts and music series. Artists perform from various genres across the music spectrum starting with mainstream rock bands and going up to opera singers and classical musicians. Millennium Park, which contains Jay Pritzker Pavilion, is a section of the bigger Grant Park. Pritzker pavilion, with its seating capacity of eleven thousand is a small-scale performing arts venue within Grant Park that well supports Petrillo Music Shell, which is the bigger and older shell theater of the park. The pavilion is constructed halfway over the Harris Theater for Dance and Music, the indoor performing arts venue of the park, alongside which it shares backstage facilities and a loading dock. The construction process of Jay Pritzker Pavilion was marked with a legal controversy surrounding the historic limitation placed on heights of buildings within Grant Park. To escape such legal issues the city has classified the shell theater as an artwork instead of a mere building. The pavilion’s construction designs were revised a few times over, with many other options for assembly problems, with certain features eliminated and certain others added to make successful fundraising possible.  Towards the end, the pavilion was designed to have a huge fixed seating portion, a trellis network that would support the sound system, a stainless steel headdress and a Great Lawn. The pavilion also features an incredible sound system that has an acoustic design, which can replicate the sound experience of indoor concert halls.
 
Millennium Park and Jay Pritzker Pavilion have garnered much recognition from the critics, in particular for its accessibility.
