An unincorporated town, Stateline is situated on Lake Tahoes east shore, in Douglas County, Nevada, United States. Stateline takes its name from its situation on the southern shore of Lake Tahoe, to the East of the California-Nevada state line.
It has a total area of 0.8 square miles, of which 7/8th constitutes land and the rest of the 1/8th of water. It is situated at an elevation of 6260 feet. Nearby cities include Zephyr Cove-Round Hill Village, NV, Kingsbury, NV, Zephyr Cove, NV, South Lake Tahoe, CA, Genoa-Jacks Valley, NV, Minden, NV, Gardnerville, NV, and Indian Hills, NV. Major nearby cities with population above 1000, 000 people include Los Angeles, CA, Sacramento, CA, and Carson City, NV.
Stateline has a very low population density of 1803 people per square mile, and according to the 2000 census report, the town has a total population of 1215, with 510 households, and 245 families. This population number, however, is subject to change as it increases in the summer and winter seasons due to the attractions of the area.

Many of the hotels in the neighboring town of South Lake Tahoe, California organize buses to take residents to the casinos in Stateline. Stateline and South Lake Tahoe are effectively one town, with the state line intersecting with US Highway 50 immediately after the Harrah's and Harvey's casinos.
Another well-known feature of Stateline is Kingsbury Grade, also known as Nevada state route 207, which runs up and over a mountain pass, rising from Lake Tahoe and dropping down to Gardnerville on the other side.
