Beautifully situated in the hub of Willamette Valley, Oregon, the City of Corvallis is a very lively and a vibrant place. Located along the riverside of the Willamette River, the city offers many recreation activities, to both its residents and visitors alike.
The wide streets sheltered by age-old trees and the red-brick and white stone buildings found within the vicinity of Corvallis are a true treat to the eyes of the beholder.
The city is a great place to explore, while it also offers the options to explore the neighboring towns and attractions, including the Coast Range and the wildlife regions.
The City of Corvallis, Oregon, USA, is Benton Countys county seat, along with being the chief city of the Corvallis, Oregon Metropolitan Statistical Area. Benton County is a very important local hub for industrial technology, research, commerce, health care, and especially education.
According to the estimate of the United State Bureau in 2006, the total population of the city was 49,807. Residing at an elevation of 235 feet, Corvallis experiences mild seasons, with spring being the most beautiful of them all. It is forty-five miles north from Eugene, and eighty-five miles south of Portland.
A land claim was settled in 1845 by Joseph C. Avery, at the opening of Marys River where it runs into the Willamette River. Then, in 1849, Avery surveyed his land claim for a site to establish a town, while opening a store in the area and also platting the land.
The community was named Marysville. Later, in 1853, the citys name was changed to Corvallis by the legislative assembly. The name CORVALLIS is in Latin, which translates as Heart of the Valley, in English. Soon, in 1857, Corvallis got incorporated as a city. Today, the citys largest employers include Oregon State University and Hewlett-Packard.
The City Of Corvallis features many attractions and a plentiful of activities for its people, both the tourists and inhabitants. Throughout the city, you will find over two-hundred acres of parks with flowering gardens, bike paths leading on a web of hiking trails to river rafting and golf, along with picnic areas and many playgrounds.
Exploring the outdoors in Corvallis is a life time experience, and with places like Paul M. Dunn and McDonald Forest, Marys Peak, Scenic Botanical area, Farmers Market, make it more possible and worthwhile. Other than this, Corvallis culture can be experienced in festivals like Da Vinci Days - a three day festival, and the Corvallis Fall Festival.
One of the main sites of interest of the City of Coravallis includes the Oregon State University campus, which comprises a total area of 500 acres.
Other than being the oldest higher education institution of the state of Oregon, the university has also been the venue for much of the towns activities and events.
Many bookstores, restaurants, boutiques and other shops are also located along the edge of the campus area. Other buildings of interest include the museums, such as the Benton County Courthouse and the Peavy Arboretum.
