Nestled in the Gallatin Valley, encompassed by the majestic Rocky Mountains, Bozeman is considered to be the pioneer spot of Montana. The City of Bozeman is a community of friendly people, and a center for recreation throughout the year.
The city offers a small town atmosphere with big city amenities to residents and visitors alike. Agriculture is the number one industry for the area, where wheat and barley fields dot the landscape.
Besides being a wonderful region with a lot of advantages, the city is also host to many festival and events throughout the year. Make sure you plan a visit to this vibrant city this year and experience a memorable journey!
Established in 1863, in Gallatin County which is 2,517 square miles in size, Bozeman has a population of 27,509 at the 2000 census. It is the fifth largest city in the state. The city sits in a high mountain valley at an elevation of 4,795 feet and is surrounded on three sides by the Bridger, Gallatin and Tobacco Root mountains.
The area of Bozeman had been occupied by Native American tribes, like Shoshone, Nez Perce, Blackfeet, Flathead, etc., for many years. These people had made their homes here. However, the Gallatin Valley was not permanently held by any particular tribe.
The city is named after John M. Bozeman, who was the founder of the Bozeman Trail. Bozeman residents are known as Bozemanites. The city has borne many prominent artists, scientists, and performers.
