In 1830, Ebenezer Purviance, John G. Jemison and Andrew Fleming drew out the plans for a city they had envisioned. The original plans contained 64 lots and were to cater for families and small businesses. The town was officially started out as Lebanon and a total of about 20 families moved into the area. The town enjoyed little to no growth in its initial years due to it being landlocked but there was the start of a steady growth when a railroad was laid nearby in 1856. This led to the town developing and the town was officially incorporated in 1869 as West Lebanon.

West Lebanon is the place to go for a person who doesn't mind the rocky outdoors. The town enjoys lovely weather throughout the year and its many parks and rocky areas provide for something of a soothing outdoor experience. You would be surprised to see such a differing place inside America as it has none of the big city hustle and bustle. The most significant festival held there is the Patriot Festival. This festival is named after the Patriot mascot of the local school and is an outdoor gala. The festival includes live music, stalls, games, raffles, bingo, arts & crafts and a host of fun competitions. There is also an outdoor race that townspeople are allowed to take part in. Other festivals that take place in the town include the Carnival Games and the Halloween Party. The Halloween Party is an inimitable night of fun where all the townsfolk get together for a massive dress up party. The nature of these festivals gives us an insight into the welcoming and fun loving nature of the locals.
