History

Tourism

The most famous of the beaches is the Sardinero beach with its European style casino.
The city starts at Somorrostro Hill. On this hill, you can see the prominent Cathedral and this is where the old walled city with its castle once stood. The famous Jardines de Pereda (Pereda Gardens), headed by a sculpture of the Cantabrian novelist is very popular among tourists. A sea-side fishing village is found at a distance of 30 minutes from the Santander city popularly knows as San Vicente de la Barquera. Here you can catch the sight of big fishing vessels being unloaded. In the middle of the center and El Sardinero, there is a midway area, boasting huge luxurious building like Casa Pardo and Hotel Real.
El Sardinero is well known part of Santander for its endless accommodation options. Numerous hotels attract tourist with their location near the beaches. These beaches are ideal for sunbathing and swimming in the Cantabrian Sea. Four beaches are found between the El Sardinero bay. These are called Camello, Concha, Primera and Segunda.
