Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art or JMOMA opened its door for public in 2003, spreading over 60,000-square-foot of land. In November 2006, JMOMA earned a new name, "Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville", to depict their dedication to art produced after the modernist period.
Visitors pause at the "Museum of Science & History" to Jacksonville"s Southbank Riverwalk. The museum features a main exhibit that changes after every three months, three floors of nature and local history exhibits and a hands-on beautiful area with the Alexander Brest Planetarium. The "Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens" is also a worth-visiting place.
Performing Arts

All the rage venue in the area is the Alhambra Dinner Theatre, located on the Southside near UNF. The theater has produced several professional productions to-date, starring frequently well-known actors for over forty years.
The outdated Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum was demolished in 2003 and replaced by 16,000-seat performance venue called the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The Memorial Arena features national entertainment, sporting events and is home to the Jacksonville Sports Hall of Fame. However, visitors may also enjoy striking performances and events in smaller, independent theaters, such as Players by the Sea at the Beach.
Events and Festivals
The city of Jacksonville is full of big shoulder people celebrating vibrant festivals and events throughout the year. One of the most popular sporting events in the region is the US National Championship 15K - Gate River Run.
This largest 15K race is held each year providing a large number of athletes as many as 13,000 with recreational runners to participate in the race. Some run for the first time and the entire race is joined by thousands of supporters, spectators and volunteers making it Jacksonville"s largest participation sporting event. The city also hosts the 9.3 mile race every March.
The Jacksonville Jazz Festival takes place in April each year and is the second-largest jazz festival in the country. "Springing the Blues" is a free outdoor blues festival held in the same month in Jacksonville Beach.
The Jacksonville Film Festival is another annual event, takes place in May and features an array of independent films, documentaries, and shorts screening at various historic venues. Many prominent figures have been the attendees of the festival included director John Landis and Academy Award nominee Bill Murray and winner Graham Greene.
Parks and Gardens
Many scenic sites like St. Johns River and Atlantic Ocean earns the city significant natural beauty. There are several parks providing access for people to boat, swim, fish, sail, jetski, surf and waterski. Many parks around the city have earned international recognition.
