Welcome to the agricultural land of Grand Island grounded in the heart of Nebraska, United States. The Fourth largest city of the state with an estimated population of 45,000 offers a wide array of opportunities in every field of life. The island covers attractive tourist attractions, a flourishing trade centre, enormous employment prospects and an intelligent human service plan. The city is endowed with the variety of all the four seasons bringing the assortment of activities for every season.
The City is bounded by North Platte River and the Wood River making it the largest inland Island worldwide. The island was settled by the German Traders who relocated from Davenport, Iowa. The Region was previously used as a key port by the French traders and they named the region as La Grande Isle. In 1859 a fire destroyed the inhabitants of the area and the region was once again incorporated in 1872. Later when Union Pacific Railroad reached the region accelerating the trade, the inhabitants were moved to north of the Platte river. The Region was no longer an Island but was continued to be called the City of Grand Island.
The Population and the economy of the City kept growing better and better. The City started Sugar Beets harvesting and had the credit of initiating the first beet processing factory in the whole America. The factory was situated in the south-west part of the region.The City has a frivolous spirit and is always on the groove putting up a large array of variant events for the visitors. Being an agricultural land every September the city organizes the Husker Harvest Days show where farmers flaunt their latest techniques and equipment. The city celebrates the spring season with the horse racing at the Fonner Park.
This race is considered to be the foremost horse racing unison of the Nebraska circuit. The opening Saturdays of October is the time for Harvest of Harmony Parade. The tradition continues since 1941 and bands from all across the State come over to play. The parade also showcases tastefully adorned Floats covering the whole route of the parade and the bands also participate in various competitions at the local high schools. The city is now going to become the proud host of the Lincoln's Renowned State Fair.The City has a lot of attractive locations to keep you busy while exploring the long lived traditions of the Grand Island. The Stuhr Museum, Masonic Temple Building, Plum Street Station, the Yancy, Island Oasis Water Park and Fonner Park are the most invigorating spots visited by the tourists.
The Stuhr Museum plays the essential role of keeping the tourist abridged with the heritable background of the City. Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer preserves the legacy of the grand pioneers and is named after one of the farmers that settled in the lands in early 1800s. The Museum features living history village called Railroad Town which carries the house of the American actor Henry Fonda.The Grand Island maintains a perfect balance of nature based and cultural activities all around the year.
