Florissant
The City of Florissant is located in the St. Louis County in the state of Missouri, and is the oldest town that was ever settled in the state of Missouri. Although not exact, but the history of the city dates back to 1760's however the first official civil govt. was founded by Francois Dunegant dit Borosier in 1786. Since the village was initially occupied by French, the city was named Fleurissant back then and as the ruler ship was shifted to the Spanish people; the name was changed to St. Ferdinand. However the present name of the city seems to be modified form of French name Fleurissant.
As of its area, the city covers about 11.4 sq. miles of land along with 0.3 sq. miles of area that is water. The climate of the city is mild, and usually July is the hottest month while January is the coolest. As of the previous census readings of 2000, the city was inhabited by 50,497 people that were further divided in to 13, 687 families. According to the racial division of the population, 86.66% people were Caucasian, 10.51% were African American, 0.20% were Native Americans, 0.61% were Asians, 1.49% were Hispanics or Latinos, 1.48% were from mixed race, and 0.03% were pacific islanders. The Median income that the family earned in the city came out to be $44, 462 as of 2000 Census, while the per capita income happened to be $20,622.
The city of Florissant has always been rich in its cultural and historical heritage. Even today, it attracts a number of visitors towards its historical sites, which include Florissant City Hall built in 1970, Castello House built in 1870, Dr. Nicholas Jensen House built in 1890, Baptiste Aubuchon house built in 1832, Cold Water Commons Park and many other buildings. Apart from these the city also has a separate area designated as the Old town that takes the visitor back in time. Feeling Hungry?
