Details of Coventry and the Ticket Luck value
Coventry
A city worth visiting in England is Coventry situated in West Midlands. The city is second only to Birmingham in size in the English Midlands having population of 306,000 as per 2007 census.
It has the distinction of being the world"s first "twin" city since the Russian city of Stalingrad had a twinning relationship with Coventry during World War II. The reason for the people of Coventry to develop this relationship was to show solidarity with the Soviet Army and the Russian civilians.
Coventry Cathedral is a worthy landmark of the city which was built just after WWII when an earlier building of cathedral was demolished by bombing. The new cathedral has contributed to Coventry"s reputation as a city promoting peace and understanding.
Next, the motor companies in the city have helped developed the British motor industry while the two universities here, Coventry University and the University of Warwick have lent value in their own respect. It is hypothesized that Coventry originated from an agreement during the bronze age when the flowing river and lakes, formed the perfect settlement area and serene weather.
Coventry became an important hub for cloth trade by the 14th century, standing out as one of the major and foremost cities in England during the Middle Ages. It was bestowed the status of a charter of merger in 1345, became a county in 1451 while earning the grade of a city by ancient authoritarian usage.
The city"s trade activities in 18th and 19th centuries, thrived on manufacturing watches and clocks being ranked alongside Prescot. The industry soon died away due to tough competition from Swiss watches, yet the pool of workers left behind switched to making of bicycles and later on even automobiles and aircrafts.
The company Rover powered Coventry as a chief avenue of bicycle manufacturing by the end of 19th century. At the start of 20th century, bicycle manufacturing converted into motor manufacture with Coventry developing into a key center of the British motor industry.
Car production in the city halted in 2006 and manufacturing was moved to a new place near Trnava, Slovakia. However, the design head office of Jaguar Cars is still remains at their Whitley plant though their operations have minimized.
In November 1940, Nazi German Luftwaffe air raided Coventry in a massive attack. Most areas of the city were damaged by firebombs and huge fires engulfed main areas of the city. The reason for the attack was the presence of ammunitions and firearms that contributed to the British war designs.
As a result, most of the city"s old buildings were reduced to debris. The city is rich with attractions like the Coventry city centre which is a museum having largest collection of English automobiles in the world.
Then Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, a major art gallery gets regular visitors in the city centre. Also, four miles from the city centre is the Lunt Fort, a rennovaed Roman fort.
Apart from that, Midland Air Museum which is located within the vicinity of Coventry is also a great place to go by. All in all, Coventry is a must place to visit where you can get a rich flavor of life!
