Coachella
Coachella - a city known for offering big city advantage in small town atmosphere. It is often referred to as City of Eternal Sunshine - Gateway to the Salton Sea. It is largely a rural, agricultural, family-oriented community nestled in the center of the rapidly growing region in the eastern Coachella Valley.

It is the easternmost city in the riverside County, California collectively known as the Coachella Valley. Coachella is one of the states rapidly growing cities in the late 20th century. Most interesting is the fact that Coachella lends its name to the Coachella grapefruit and the towns stretch of State Route 111 is named Grapefruit Boulevard in its honor. Harrison Street or State Route 86 is declared the major thoroughfare that connects with the Interstate 10 a few miles north of the area.

English and Spanish are declared officially Coachellas regional languages, although city council meetings are supposedly spoken and performed in English. Historically, the town is predominantly Mexican/Hispanic or Native American, but is home to other ethnic groups as well like Arab-Americans, Filipinos, and recent immigrants from Central America and the former Yugoslavia. Majority of the citys population consists of younger Latino families and, in the outlying areas, migrant farm workers.

Education
A comprehensive and vast education system is incepted in the Town which is served by the Coachella Valley Unified School District, California. The Coachella Valley high School is known to be its main high school. The towns two middle schools are Cahuilla Desert Academy and Bobby Duke.

Whereas, elementary schools include Cesar Chavez, Palm View, Peter Pendleton, Valle Del Sol, Valley View, and Coral Mountain Academy. The Coachella Valley Adult School is the third largest adult school in Riverside County, offering seven levels of English as a Second Language (ESL).

Arts and Culture
Coachella has a rich performing arts scene, offering an ample opportunity to both its locals and outsiders to treat themselves to its eclectic entertainment scene. The film director Frank Capra is interred in the Coachella Valley Cemetery; and, professional boxing champions and brothers Antonio Diaz and Julio Diaz once had a home in Coachella.

The agricultural area surrounding Coachella is of notable significance as it was where the United Farm Workers union called strikes and staged protests, including visits by UFW leader Cesar Chavez. Migrant labor activist Sam Maestas too has a home in the town.

Downtown
Downtown Coachella is the economic, cultural, and social heart for the locals as well as outsiders alike, with distinctive Shops on the Avenue, fun and educational attractions, galleries, pubs, clubs & live Music venues. Also make the most of your time at downtowns exotic coffee houses. The place by far is what a Downtown should be. Since the region is undergoing economic boom consequently increasing numbers of people, heavy renovation is being carried out in Downtown Coachella.

Festivals and Events
Among regional top attractions enticing visitors with their charm and significance are the Coachellas festivals and events. Two popular fiestas celebrated in town each year are Cinco de Mayo, - Mexicos Independence from Spain, and the 12d de Decembre - the patron saint of Mexico: Santa Maria del Guadalupe - to celebrate the Virgin Mary.

Also take some time for recreation at a series of casinos near the city limits of Coachella on Indian reservations. Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino is owned and operated by the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, Spotlight 29 Casino by Twentynine Palms Band of Mission Indians and Augustine Casino by Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Though not indigenous to the California desert region however, Coachella is also home to a significant Southwest Indian population - Apache, Hopi, Navajo and Zuni.

The city is also a shorthand reference to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, organized in nearby Indio, California. Enjoy Coachellas music containing from the most ancient genres to the most popular genres.
