Cannonsburg
Looking for a stress-free yet fun holidays? Go to Cannonsburg and spend quality times with your loved ones in this beautiful and calm place.

Besides many other attraction of the Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan, Cannonsburg will surely make a place in your heart.

Cannonsburg is an unincorporated community within Cannon Township. This is the place that is famous for its beauty and charm and contains a healthy mix of old world charm with all the modern facilities. The place is preferred by visitors from within the United States and other parts of the world.

History traces of Cannonsburg take us back to old times. The settlement at Cannonsburg was founded in 1842 on an old Native American trail. This was done when the area was still a part of Plainfield Township.

The areas of Chippewa and Ottawa populated the area prior to the region being opened for white settlers. In 1844 and 1845, mills were erected by Edwin B. Bostwick, with H.T. Judson as architect. With that came some name and fame for this settlement.

The community of Cannonsburg was platted in 1848. This was the time when Bostwick, a business agent of railroad and steamboat financier LeGrand Cannon of Troy, New York, was instructed to give a lot to each resident who was not otherwise provided for.

Twenty-five lots were given away and the town was named in honor of Cannon, who acknowledged the honor with the gift of small cannon engraved with his name and the date. While there are some more stories to the origin of town name and its correct history, a popular one states that Cannon was buried in a local swamp after misfiring and killing a young man.

While the first record of the Cannonsburg Township being separated from Plainfield is said to be on April 6, 1846, there are evidences about other dates as well. According to one, the Michigan Legislature had organized the town under the name of Churchtown in the spring of 1846 that was soon after changed to Cannon, after the largest settlement.

After establishment of a post office in 1844, it was clear that Cannonsburg will soon become a booming township. While the spelling was changed from Cannonsburgh to Cannonsburg in 1894 the charm and beauty that the town holds remained the same.

The Cannonsburg served as the center of township business till the end of the 20th Century. However, it also gained a new identity with the passage of time and that was a premier tourist destination of the region thanks to its skiing and other facilities it provides to the visitors.

Accessible on a 20 minutes drive outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cannonsburg of today holds exciting attraction for all and sundry. This is a popular winter destination due to its challenging slopes and healthy 100 average inches of snow. This is a picture-perfect place for everyone who love snow and skiing, while others can just enjoy its shops, food, clubs and colorful events.

With its 100 skiable acres, 18 runs and 250 feet of vertical drop, Cannonsburg ensures a worthwhile holiday trip for you and family.

Almost 35 percent of its trails are dedicated to beginning skiers; hence this place is an excellent getaway for families with younger children who have interest in Skiing. Go to Cannonsburg and enjoy the best holidays of your life.
