The museum also has a reconstructed 1917s steam locomotive, a restored 1930s gas station, a 56 foot Petersburg boat and a replica cotton gin. There"s a history theater in the museum which features different films monthly.
MORRIS MUSEUM OF ART
This museum exhibits two centuries of Southern art and is one of the finest art museums in the southern region. The museum has more than a dozen galleries displaying Civil War Illustrations, Antebellum portraits, Southern impressionist paintings, contemporary art, landscapes and more. Morris Museum of Art also features various educational programs with a research library.
IMPERIAL THEATRE
Imperial theatre is a historic theatre built in 1917. The theatre so far has hosted different variety shows as well as the original silent movies. Today it"s one of the popular venues of the city featuring live stage performances. In addition, it is home to the Augusta Opera and the Augusta Ballet.
AUGUSTA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
Augusta pledges to deliver efficient and high quality leisure services aim to provide programs desired by the citizens of Augusta as well as to develop customer friendly relationship. The region is perhaps best known for the Masters Golf Tournament held in the first week of every April annually. Augusta National Golf Club is a beautiful, highly developed and well maintained Golf club occupying an area if 365 acres with 18 holes.
The public is allowed on the grounds of the Augusta National Golf Course only during the week of the Masters. No access is permitted for the remaining 51 weeks. The entrance is gated off and security clearance is required for the gates to open. The best a tourist can do is either drive or walk by the golf course.
This annual golf tournament was initially known as "The Augusta National Invitation Tournament" that began in 1934. After five years, the tournament gained worldwide attention and was named as "Masters Golf Tournament". Other games popular in Augusta include Baseball, football, hockey with Augusta Green Jackets, Augusta Stallions, Augusta Lynx teams respectively.
PHINIZY SWAMP NATURE PARK
Don"t miss over 1,000 acres of swamps, pristine wetlands, boardwalks, nature trails, and observation decks to observe elusive alligator, blue heron, egret and otter, in their natural setting. Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is open noon to dusk in week days noon dawn to dusk at weekends. The park also provides its visitors with restroom facilities.
