The town also anchors the annual World Championship Chuckwagon Roundup yearly. Teams participating in competition not only attempt to prepare a feast of mashed potatoes, breaded beef cutlets, sourdough biscuits and baked beans but also attempt to duplicate the food served on western cattle trails.

Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts features the Amarillo Symphony, Amarillo Opera, and Lone Star Ballet Concerts. Amarillo Little theatre is a nonprofit community theater group promoting local arts and theatre and performs from September to May.

The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) is an international organization committed to the preservation, restoration and record keeping of the American Quarter Horse Breed. The organization has its headquarter in Amarillo and owns a museum too. Indeed a good tourist attraction!

For every two Amarillo area"s higher education institutions, there"s at least one museum in their campuses. The Amarillo Art Center was opened in 1972 and has a concert hall and art museum stationed in the Washington Street Campus of Amarillo College.

In addition, Amarillo College"s Washington Street Campus is the home to the largest natural history museum in the United States. However, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum also claims to be the largest historical museum but in Texas. In addition to exhibiting hands-on historical collection, these museums also offer educational courses and conduct educational activities.

Other significant museums in the area are the English Field Air & Space and Kwahadi Kiva Indian Museum. The English Field Air & Space Museum had been operated by the Texas Aviation Historical Society exhibiting space and aircraft items, is now shut down.

However, The Kwahadi Kiva Indian Museum attracts a large number of people everyday. It features an extraordinary collection of Native American artifacts and provides dance performances too.

Amarillo has every chain restaurant and hotel that you can think of. Among popular restaurants, are the La Casita Del Sol, Fiesta motel and Golden light Cafe. These restaurants have done an amazing job in reviving the old exquisite cuisine with new presentations. There are also a whole bunch of Bar-B-Que places in the region and of them is the Dyer"s Bar-B-Que offering the best food.

In the field of Sports, the city of Amarillo is providing ample opportunities to promote sports on a large scale. There"re several highly developed grounds and centers including the Potter County Memorial Stadium, Amarillo Civic Center etc.

The Amarillo Civic Centre provides its venue for the CHL hockey team Amarillo Gorillas and the af2 indoor football team Amarillo Dusters. Baseball is also popular in Amarillo.
