How Becky G has become a Latin pop sensation

Rising to popularity at a rapid pace is the newcomer Rebecca Marie Gomez, better known by her stage name Becky G.  The talented singer-songwriter is making great strides towards stardom. Embracing the Latin-pop, pop-rap genres, this gifted rapper and guitar player has become a popular name in the music industry. Born and raised in Inglewood, California, Becky G draws inspiration from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera and Thalia. Not unlike many other young celebrities, Becky G first gained recognition after she posted videos of her singing online on YouTube in 2011. The fourteen-year old posted videos of her performing remixed versions of several popular songs.

Incorporating her unique touch, she rapped her own lyrics on top of popular hip-hop and rap songs. Some of the singles she covered include "Novacane," Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" and Paula Abdul's "Straight Up." Her rendition of Kanye West and Jay Z's popular single "Otis" grabbed the attention of veteran songwriter Dr. Luke. This gave Becky her first big break when Luke signed her to Sony Music Entertainment's associated label Kemosabe Records.

The year 2012 was a busy one for Becky G with her performances playing a pivotal role in launching her career even further. The talented vocalist and songwriter featured on Australian singer Cody Simpson's hit single "Wish U Were Here" and British singer Cher Lloyd's "Oath." She was also a featured artist in the remixed version of "Die Young" by Kesha, Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa. Another of her credits was the track "Monster" that appeared on Sony Picture Animation and Columbia Pictures animated production Hotel Transylvania. The single also featured popular rapper will.i.am. Becky has also opened for Justin Bieber on his Believe Tour and for Katy Perry. Famous American Idol judge and talent scout Simon Cowell has called her a "star in the making."

Play it Again

Becky G released her debut single "Play It Again" and her first EP by the same name in 2013. The EP eventually featured on the Billboard "Top Heatseekers" chart at number seventeen. The second single off the album, "Can't Get Enough" featured famous rapper Pitbull and went on to become G's first number one on the "Latin Airplay" chart. The single also grabbed the number ten spot on the "Hot Latin Songs" chart.

"Shower" hits the charts

The first single off her as yet untitled debut album, "Shower," was released in April 2014. The song became her first entry on "The Billboard Hot 100" charting at number sixteen. It also snatched the top spot on the "Heatseekers Songs" chart. "Can't Stop Dancing" is to be the second single of the upcoming album. The catchy single grabbed a spot on the "Mainstream Top 40" chart. Her latest release "Break A Sweat" is also shaping up to become a Top 40 hit.

What's next for Becky G?

The Latin pop prodigy is currently on her ongoing, co-headlining La Familia Tour with J Balvin. Talking about her upcoming album she recently revealed that it's going to be a mix of energetic and heartfelt singles most of which are written by her and feature experiences that are personal or those she heard about from others. Through her dynamic talents, Becky has garnered a devoted following and Becky G tickets are likely to sell out fast.
