With his anticipated sophomore record "Dreams Worth More Than Money" just on the way, Mill is certainly looking to rock the crowds with his compositions.
Meek Mill, named Robert Williams, was born on 6th May 1987 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His friends called him 'Meek Millions' and since he didn't have any millions at that time he shortened it to 'Meek Mill'. After tragically losing both of his parents at the age of 5, Mill spent his childhood with his grandmother and an uncle called Nell. Being a hip-hop pioneer, Nell was Mill's first music inspiration and motivated him to pursue it further. At the age of 18, Mill made a band of his own called "BloodHoundz". The band could not make it for long as members parted ways and Mill embarked on a solo career of his own.
His first mixtape "The Real Me" was released in 2006 followed by "The Real Me 2" in 2007. The third mixtape "Flamerz" in 2008 caught the attention of Charlie Mack who immediately signed him to his management company. He also arranged for Mill to meet T.I. Grand Hustle and producers at the Warner Bros. Records, which both offered him record deals. Although Mill chose the former, an official agreement never materialized after the artist was jailed for gun charges. During his appeal trial in 2009, the singer released "Flamerz 2: Hottest in the City" followed by his fifth mixtape "Flamerz 2.5". Meek Mill came up with another mixtape titled "Flamerz 3: The Wait is Over" and "Mr. Philadelphia" in 2010. His single "Starting Something", sung in honor of Michael Jackson, was also added by Clear Channel in their playlist.
Despite being a great talent, Meek Mill spent his early days in anonymity until signing up with Rick Ross. In 2011, Mill released "Dreamchaser" and "Flamerz 4" and was featured in XXL's Freshman Class Magazine. The same year Mill successfully grabbed Ross's attention through Twitter, requesting his appearance on his "Rose Red" single. Ross accepted the offer and also signed Mill to his Maybach Music Group along with artists Pill and Wale. The deal proved to be a breakthrough for Mill after the release of the label's album "Self Made Vol. 1" with Mill's debut single "Tupac Back" featuring Ross as a guest. The remix "Imma Boss" was a success as the track charted high on Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 51. The song ranked number 20 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. By 2012, Meek Mill became MTV's "#7 Hottest MC" in their Hottest MCs in the Game directory. Mill's second installment to the Dreamchaser series was downloaded a whopping 1.5million times within just six hours of its release. "Dreamchaser 3" featured co-stars like Waka Flocka Flame, Jadakiss, Rick Ross, Wale, Trina, Akon, Future and many more.
Meek Mill released his solo debut album on 12th October 2012 titled "Dreams & Nightmares". The album became an instant hit and debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200. It sold 165,000 copies in the first week of its release and gave hit singles like "Amen", "Believe It" and "Young Kings". In May the artist signed with management firm Roc Nation and released "Amen as his first single together with Drake and Jeremih. The artist is soon to release his eagerly awaited second album "Dreams Worth More Than Money" this year amidst all the speculations and excitement.
Mr. Philadelphia is known for giving the audience one hell of a rapping experience. Known for his phenomenal live performances, Mill is an expert at treating crowds in his unique style. His upcoming album showcases his journey as a young rapper and his admiration for the genre, as he puts it himself ".the story of a young street rapper that's bringing a whole other lane back to the game." Don't miss this exciting opportunity to see this emerging talent perform live and enjoy a hip-hop night out.
