After the release and success of his second album, from 2009 till 2011, J shifted from the Three 6 mafia and put his primary focus on his solo music career. Throughout this period, he collaborated with Wiz Khalifa, a fellow rapper, who was featured on many mixtapes that J created. He also released some like Blue Dream & Lean. Rumors about him joining the Taylor Gang of Wiz Khalifa buzzed in the industry. J confirmed these rumors in December 2011. The following year, he was seen on the cover page of Source Magazine May 2012 issue with the members of the Taylor Gang group. Soon after, his song "Bandz a Make her Dance" from the album Stay Trippy, came out. This chart topping single featured Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. The single went on to reach the 32^nd slot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts list.

In November 2012, Juicy J announced in the media that his third studio recorded album that is titled as Stay Trippy will be releasing in 2013. He has shown great interest in working along with Jay-Z, Dr. Dre as well as Nas on this album of his. Some prominent musicians from the industry will be featured on the album like Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Project Pat, 2 Chainz, Yelawolf, Chris Brown and Maejor Ali.
