However, Len Roemer did not make a long journey with the band and decided to leave just after a few months. He was replaced by Ronnie King and Van Louis and the band decided that with the change in line up they should also revamp their identity and come up with a new name. The band members agreed on the name "The Stampeders" and thus a band which will be respected by generation to come was born.

Success and fame did not find The Stampeders very quickly. The band struggled for a few years after its inception and craved for the spotlight it deserved. However, it did not have the best of luck and continued to play in small clubs and bars in the hopes of getting noticed and having a big break. The band's single "Sweet City Woman" became an instant hit the top ten charts when it was released. The song was charming and infectious and soon after its release many people were found humming and singing the song over and over again.
