Pepe Aguilar was born with the name Jos Aguilar. He was born in 1968, San Antonio, Texas. Pepe Aguilar is a well-known American singer of ranchera music who is of Mexican decent. One might say that Pepe Aguilar was boundto be successful since his parents Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre were legends in Mexican show business. One of his stunning features is his height. Pepe Aguilar is 6 feet and 5 inches tall.

Pepe Aguilar was born when his father was going through a difficult patch in his career. Antonio Aguilar, Pepe's father, was not getting a good enough response for the albums he was making. It had also been a while since he was given a role in a Mexican film.

This led the family to move to Puerto Rico for a few years. When he was a teenager, Pepe Aguilar played in a rock music band that was called "Equs". This outfit did not last long. However, this perhaps gave him the confidence to perform on his first CD.

Aguilar had debuted as a solo singer in 1990. His album was named Pepe Aguilar con tambora, which means "Pepe Aguilar with a Conga". Through this album he won some popularity in Mexico and Latin America too. Through the 1990s, Pepe Aquilar launched many CDs through the 1990s. He emerged as a producer, and commenced 2 record labels. Through these labels he produced songs for Lupe Pineda, Lupita D'Alessio, Julieta Venegas, and many others.

By 1998, Aguilar launched Por mujeres como tu, which when translated means "Because of Women Like You". This CD was a huge success, as it sold 2 million copies globally. It was also on the Billboard hits list, and it remained there for 52 straight weeks. In 1998, the Billboard had awarded Aguilar for releasing the "Hot Latin Track of the Year".

By 2000, Aguilar launched one more successful album called Por una mujer bonita, which when translated means "Because of a Beautiful Woman". This release won Pepe Aguilar a Latin Grammy award. He has also been nominated nine times for Grammys. Additionally, Aguilar has been nominated many times for other awards.

Aguilar emerged as the first Mexican regional music singer in 2002 to appear at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl. Aguilar is additionally known as the first Hispanic to perform at the Los Angeles Kodak Theater.

As Mexicans celebrated their independence day in 2003, Aguilar was presented with the symbolic keys to the city of Los Angeles. Around 20,000 people were present at this ceremony. He also launched 2 more CDs in the same year.

In 2004, Aguilar signed with Sony music. He soon released No soy de nadie which means "I Don't Belong to Anyone".

Rumors about an Aguilar and Alejandro Fernandez rivalry have gone around for many years. There has been no denial or confirmation from either musician.

One of Pepe Aguilar's most recent performances has been in front of the Floyd Mayweather-Oscar De La Hoya fight. He sang the mexican national anthem.
