Lloydminster is a city found in Canada, and is known for its odd geographical location with a leg on each side of the provincial border between Alberta and Saskatchewan. Lloydminster should not be confused for being a pair of twin cities on opposite sides of a border, as it is authentically incorporated as a single city having a single municipal administration. The city is at elevation 669 meters, and comprises an area of 41.53 square kilometers. The population estimate (2006) reveals that there are 24,028 people living in the city at the moment, with a density of 561.1 per square kilometer.
The town was established in 1903 and was meant to be an exclusively British Utopian settlement based on the idea of soberness. Coming from the United Kingdom, the Barr Colonists founded the town. The name of the town has been kept after Anglican Bishop George Exton Lloyd, who was a strong rival of non-British immigration to the area of Canada. In 1905, the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan had been formed and the Fourth Meridian was selected as the border to bisect the town. Lloydminster continued to be two separate towns until 1930, when the provincial governments, on agreeing upon amalgamating the towns into a single one, sharing a single jurisdiction. Then in 1958, the provinces together reincorporated Lloydminster as a city. The city's greatest landmark - a monument having four 100 foot survey markers, near the downtown core of the city, was made in 1994.
The economy of Lloydminster primarily depends on the booming petroleum industry; whereas, agriculture also remains an important economic activity for the town. The city also proves to be one of Alberta and Saskatchewan's economic hotspots. The city also features Lakeland College, which provides secondary education to more than 600 students.
