A.J. Croce is a popular American singer-songwriter who has made his mark in the music world by churning out some very good music. Being the son of singer-songwriter Jim Croce, it was destined for A.J. Croce to get the taste of music and venture into this profession.
Born on September 28, 1971 as Adrian James Croce in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Croce didn?t saw a usual happy-go-lucky childhood.
His father died in a 1973 plane crash which led the family to move to west to San Diego, California. His mother, Ingrid, raised him but he had to suffer another tragedy when he became blind as the result of a brain tumor.
Croce gradually regained vision in his left eye between the ages of four and ten. It was during this time that he began to play the piano.
He learned to play music by listening and playing along to the radio and to records. His mostly used to listen to the music of Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder, who are his inspiration even today.
Croce played music for long but his first paying gig was at the age of 12 at a Bat-Mitzvah party. He was paid $20 to perform there. By the age of 16, Croce started performing regularly at San Diego nightclubs, as a sideman and band leader. His romance with music continued until he got the big chance.Croce signed his first record deal at the age of nineteen.
He recorded two CDs for Private Music which include his self-titled debut, A.J. Croce, produced by T-Bone Burnett and John Simon, and That's Me In The Bar, which was produced by Jim Keltner. Croce's third release was Fit To Serve. The album produced by Jim Gaines and was recorded in Memphis
Croce experience a turn in his music and fame with the release of his album ?Transit?. This time instead of playing his trademark blues-based music, he tried something new.
The album gained both critical and commercial success and he gained immense exposure after this work. His fifth album ?Adrian James Croce,? was released in the summer of 2004 while the sixth one came up in 2006 titled ?Cantos?.
A.J. Croce is a songwriter par excellence. He is acknowledged by David Wild of Rolling Stone as one of the greatest young songwriters.
His wide appeal is not limited to just one aspect of his talent, rather he is respected everywhere for his contributions in singing, songwriting, and musicianship.
Croce has performed for and with many known artists. He has done opening act for Carlos Santana, Rod Stewart, Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, James Brown, Ben Harper, Dave Matthews, Earth, Wind and Fire and Ray Charles.
He shared a stage with legendary artists like Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Santana, Willie Nelson, Dave Mathews, Steve Poltz and his childhood hero Ray Charles besides many others.
His various TV appearances also earned him huge fanbase across the world. Noted among them are those in The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman, Good Morning America and BBC?s Later with Jules Holland.
