The Philadelphia Flyers acquired a 19-year-old diabetic named Bobby Clarke who hailed from Flin Flon' Manitoba. Clarke lived up to Snider's expectations and took the team to the new heights of success. With his 15 goals and 31 assists in his rookie season' he became a fan favorite. His incredible play earned him a trip to the National Hockey League All-Star Game. He also became the first Flyer to take away an NHL award' while his other notable accolade includes the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. He was awarded the trophy for dedication to hockey' sportsmanship' and perseverance.

Besides all his efforts' the team could finish 1969-70 season only with 17 wins. The following season' they returned to the playoffs' but were unfortunate to end their game in the first round after being defeated by the Chicago Black Hawks. The years from 1989 through 1994 proved to be a fall from grace for the franchise and they continued to get worse till 1989 -90 season. The Flyers entered the twentieth century with lofty expectations' while the years from 2000 to 2004 turned out to be the years of change. The franchise re-vamped its lineup by signing such popular hockey players as Jeremy Roenick and others.

Since their inception' the Flyers have played their home games on Broad Street and so are sometimes called the Broad Street Bullies. They played at The Spectrum until 1996 and then moved to the Wachovia Center.
