Prince Royce is an American Latin pop superstar from The Bronx in New York City. Known for music that is primarily bachata, fused with R&B and Latin pop, he has been active since 2009 and has risen to fame in the US and the Spanish speaking world. Prince Royce grew fond of music at a young age, meeting Andres Hidalgo by the age of nineteen, who connected him to Sergio George. Signed onto Sergio George's record label, he released a studio album in 2010, which spawned two songs that ranked first on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart. One more song from the album ranked first on the Hot Latin Songs chart, with the album itself ranking first on the Tropical Albums and Billboard Latin Albums chart. The album also led to him winning three Billboard Latin Music Awards, including that for the Tropical Album of the Year. Prince Royce grew up in The Bronx to a taxi cab driver father and a mother who worked at a beauty saloon. At a young age, he sang in the school choir, competing in talent shows, which he usually won. He began writing songs at the age of thirteen and two years later, began recording music with Jose Chusan, forming the duo Jino and Royce, known also as El Duo Real. He also began working with Vincent Outerbridge and Donzell Rodriguez, making music and performing locally.
He then shifted from playing reggaeton music to bachata, meeting Andres Hidalgo, who became his manager and introduced him to Top Stop Music's owner, Sergio George. In 2010, he released his debut, a self-titled album, produced by him and Andres Hidalgo, Sergio George. Praised by the likes of AllMusic, its songs rose rapidly up the Billboard charts, eventually grabbing the number one spot. Three of his first album's songs occupied the number one spots, with the album itself ranking first on the Billboard Latin Albums chart. The album was soon certified double platinum by the RIAA in a short time, selling more than a massive two million copies.
He then recorded the song El Campo de Suenos with Sergio George, which was used on an ESPN show. He also won a Grammy Award nomination for the Best Contemporary Tropical Album, performing one of his songs with Ben E. King at the Grammy Awards ceremonies. He also won three Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, including that for the Song of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and New Soloist or Group of the Year. He also won three Billboard Latin Music Awards, including those for the Tropical Airplay Solo Artist of the Year and Tropical Albums Solo Artist of the Year.
In 2011, he recorded the song Ven Conmigo with Daddy Yankee and was then signed onto Atlantic Records to release albums with English songs. Later that year, he went on tour with Pitbull, supporting Enrique Iglesias as special guests. He was also ranked on of the 50 Most Beautiful People by Espanol Magazine in 2011.
In 2012, he released the album Phase II which became the Best Selling Latin Album on iTunes and its songs ranked first on the Billboard Tropical Chart and Billboard Latin Songs Chart. He again made it to People Magazine's Spanish edition as one of the sexiest men of the year. His second album was certified platinum in the US in just six months, as well as winning him yet another Grammy Award nomination.
