Prince Royce grew up in The Bronx to a taxi cab driver father and a mother who worked at a beauty saloon. At a young age, he sang in the school choir, competing in talent shows, which he usually won. He began writing songs at the age of thirteen and two years later, began recording music with Jose Chusan, forming the duo Jino and Royce, known also as El Duo Real. He also began working with Vincent Outerbridge and Donzell Rodriguez, making music and performing locally.
