Apart from being a child prodigy when it came to music, Bocelli did well, academically, as well. He went on to graduate with a Degree in Law from University of Pisa, and later worked as Lawyer for one year, before choosing music as his full time career.
Initially, like most of the singers in early days of their career, Bocelli also started off with playing piano in clubs and bars. Bocelli received substantial amount of exposure in 1993, when he accompanied Zucchero on his European Concert to sing the duet with him for Zucchero's Miserere. Bocelli was recommended by, another legendary Italian Tenor Luciano Pavarotti, to Zucchero, after Pavarotti heard Bocelli sing on the demo tape. However Bocelli didn't sing the original song, but he did on tour though. Later on Bocelli sang the same song along with Nessun dorma at Zucchero's birthday party, where he was discovered by Sugar Records' president and subsequently signed a record deal with Sugar Records.
Andrea Bocelli released his debut studio album titled 'II mare calmo della sera' in 1994 after he won the Sanremo Music Festival Competition with the song with the same title. Since his album was released in Italy only, I received considerate amount of success in Italy and was followed by Bocelli's second self titled studio album that was released in 1995. His second album did comparatively well and received multi platinum status all across Europe. The album also featured a bonus track titled 'Time to Say Goodbye', which Bocelli sang with Sarah Brightman, after Brightman approached Bocelli after she sang with him in a duet at IBF World Light Heavy Weight Boxing Championship.
Later in 1998, Bocelli made his operatic debut when, in a production of La boheme, he played the role of Rodolfo. Prior to that Bocelli released two of his studio albums; Viaggio Italiano and Romanza. Following his operatic debut, there came his album titled Aria: The Opera Album in 1998, which led him to ECHO Klassik Award for Best Selling Classical Album. Later that year, Bocelli took his act to United States as he performed live for the first time on American soil at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. As his success story continued he grabbed two World Music Awards on May 5, 1998 and kicked off his first concert tour across seas later that year, as he performed at different venues in North and South America, and concluded his tour with a sold out performance at the Madison Square Garden.
After Aria: The Opera Album, Bocelli released several more of his hit albums including, Sogno, Sacred Arias, Requiem, Cieli di Toscana and Incanto. Bocelli is scheduled to release his upcoming studio album titled 'My Christmas' on November 3, 2009.
