The 90's band - AFI is hard to classify into any single genre as, over the years, it has been referred to as Hardcore, Punk, Rock, Goth, New Wave, and God knows what not! However, since its inception, the band has always kept true to its roots and is in the business only for its love for music. AFI has garnered a huge fan following from around the world, and have received an overwhelming response especially form the Western world. It is purely known for the fine music it creates. The band's luck has always gotten brighter with the passage of time and it surely has made a secure place not only in the hearts of its millions of fans worldwide, but has also secured a safe position in the entire music industry!

A Fire Inside is a rock band which is often known as just the AFI, as this is how its name is abbreviated. It is widely believed that other than 'A Fire Inside', the abbreviation also stands for 'Anthems for Insubordinate' and 'Asking for It'. The band formed in 1991, and since then, there have been very few lineup changes. As of 1998, the band members have remained the same, including Davey Havok on the vocals, Adam Carson on the drums, Hunter Burgan on the keyboards and bass, and Jade Puget on the guitars, keyboards and programming. In addition, all the band members, except Havok, also provide the backing vocals.
AFI is basically an alternative rock band. Alternative rock includes a range of subgenres such as grunge, indie pop and rock, Britpop, and gothic rock. In addition, the band has also focused on genres including post-hardcore, horror punk, punk rock, and hardcore punk.

The band formed in Ukiah, California, USA, in 1991, by some skateboarding teenagers who didn't like school much. The original line-up included the vocalist Davey Havok, drummer Adam Carson, guitarist Markus Stopholese and bassist Vic Chalker. The first band member to leave the group was Vick, who left after seven months of the formation of the band as he got bored and got promptly replaced by Geoff Kresge. The band played several local gigs and released a split 7", Dork, with another local band - Loose Change. A few more live shows were played by the band at skate parks but it eventually got split up, as each band member had to go to his own particular college. After reuniting to play a very well received live show, they all made the decision to quit school and focus on the band. This kind of brought an idea to the minds of everyone that this was the end of the band. However, during a school holiday break, AFI got together to play a one-off reunion show, which received them an overwhelming response from the audiences, due to which the band members decided to quit school and concentrate on music around the clock. Soon after, the band started to separate and the members initiated personnel shifts, where Kresge became the first to leave, and was replaced by Hunter Burgan. Stopholese was also placed with guitarist Jade Puget (a member of the band Loose Change).

The band's first studio album Answer That and Stay Fashionable was released in 1995, and the second one - Very Proud of Ya came in the following year, when the band signed a record deal with the Nitro label. Subsequently, two LPs were released in 1997; one was a re-release of the band's debut album, and the other was called Shut Your Mouth & Open Your Eyes. A total of eight albums have been released by the band till date, in which AFI has changed its music mode from the previous days of hardcore punk, to the two horror punk-influenced albums icluding - Black Sails in the Sunset (1999) and The Art of Drowning (2000). Both the albums were widely accepted by the audiences and reached the top numbers of the Billboard charts. The Art of Drowning was in fact such a success that it aided largely in gathering even a bigger number of fans for the band. Three more albums have been released since then, including the 2003's Sing the Sorrow, 2006's Decemberunderground, and this year's Crash Love. All these albums have been big hits with some of the chart topping tracks like he hit single "Miss Murder" from the album Decemberunderground.

The band is constantly rising up the ladder of success with passage of each day, while its number of fans is also increasing simultaneously. AFI has become a big name in the music world today!
